Varela-Payne tossed his first career complete-game shutout as he blanked Davis & Elkins in the series opener in a 7-0 Concord win. Varela-Payne struck out eight batters and scattered four hits over seven innings. The Raleigh, North Carolina native became the first Concord pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout in three years as he helped Concord sweep D&E.
