SOFTBALL: NO THANKS FOR FRIDAY

CU DROPS TWINBILL TO SHEPHERD

Concord's softball team opened a busy weekend docket by dropping both ends of a WVIAC doubleheader to Shepherd, 2-0 and 4-1, on a clear, brisk Friday afternoon at the CU complex in Athens.

Tamara Smith Pitch 4

GAME ONE
BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

CU's Tamara Smith and Shepherd's Tricia Bettura locked into a pitcher's duel, with Rams getting the game's only runs in the top of the 2nd.  The Rams loaded the bases with two outs, and Jess Mason poked a single to right that scored Taylor Bolton and Savannah Snyder.

Bettura allowed just two hits, none over the last six innings, and retired the last 13 batters she faced.  Smith scattered seven hits in the tough-luck loss.

GAME TWO
BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Mountain Lions took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the 2nd.  Becca Gleason led off with a double to the gap in right center, and hustled in to score after the Rams misplayed an attempted sacrifice bunt from Laura Kaminski.

Shepherd reclaimed the lead with a three-run rally in the 4th, on an RBI single from Sam McQuade and a two-run single from Chelsie Oals.

The Rams added their final run in the 5th, when Bolton's bunt scored Snyder from third.

Up next for Concord (13-24, 2-11) is a quick turnaround before another WVIAC doubleheader.  The Mountain Lions will host Seton Hill tomorrow – Saturday, April 7 – with first pitch set for 1:00 pm at the CU complex adjacent to Callaghan Stadium in Athens.
Note that the 1:00 pm start time is an hour earlier than originally scheduled.
