The Concord softball team is predicted to finish 11th in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season, according to the league's annual pre-season coaches' poll.

The Lady Lions feature a new head coach, Alisa Tasler, who was hired last December and officially took over the program on January 3.

Traditionally, the hiring of a new coach can result in turnover within a team's roster.  But that hasn't been the case at Concord.

At the end of the fall 2011 semester, there were eight players from the previous spring's team with eligibility remaining.  All eight chose to return to the squad, and each player has been either a regular or a part-time starter.

The veterans will be joined by a promising group of 12 newcomers, who are expected to make an immediate impact.

Tasler News Conference #3
“We have a lot to do, but I can't wait to get started,” Tasler said at her introductory news conference at the Carter Center on January 18 (right).  “We have a lot of good players on this team and I'm looking forward to working with them and seeing what we can do as a team.”

Tasler and the 2012 Lady Lions open their new season with four games in North Carolina during the second weekend in February.  CU plays a non-conference doubleheader at Fayetteville State on Saturday, February 11 and visits St. Andrew's Presbyterian College on Sunday, February 12.

Concord's home opener will be Tuesday, March 20, with a 3:00 pm doubleheader against Lees-McRae College (NC).

The WVIAC schedule begins on Saturday, March 24, when the Lady Lions host Ohio Valley in a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.  The next day, Glenville State comes to Athens for a twinbill that also starts at 1:00 pm.
