Concord's Women's Golf team wasn't expecting a pushover in its first event of the year.

The Lady Lions faced a rugged group of competitors in the inaugural Michael Corbett Women's Fall Classic in Clymer, NY. The field featured six teams ranked in the current top 20, and five that played in last year's National Championships.

Concord finished 9th out of 20 teams at the tournament, which concluded Monday afternoon on the par-72, 5875-yard Pee'k 'N' Peek Resort course.

The Lady Lions' highlight came during Sunday's first round, when Heather McMillen (left) sank a hole-in-one on her first shot of the day. The junior began her round on the par-3, 142-yard 3rd hole in a shotgun start.

Justine Knox led the Lady Lions with a 166, tying for 35th place in the individual standings. Marina Erice tied for 37th at 168. Shelby Myers carded a 177 to finish 59th and McMillen shot a 183 to come in tied for 66th in the field of 105 players.

Erice posted eight birdies to finish tied for 9th in that category.

As a team, Concord was 9th on par-3's, 10th on par-4's and 12th on par-5's. CU was 11th in eagles and tied for 11th in birdies.

Grand Valley State (MI) – the 6th-ranked team in the nation – won the event, 13 strokes ahead of St. Edward's University (TX), which is ranked 5th.

Concord finished highest of five WVIAC teams that participated in the Corbett Classic. Seton Hill finished 11th, Ohio Valley 14th and West Liberty 17th. Wheeling Jesuit withdrew after the first round.

Up next for the Lady Lions is the WVIAC Northern Regional, on October 2-3 in Moundsville, WV.
