Marina Erice, Medalist, 3 October 152 x 314
The Concord Women's Golf team proved two things at the WVIAC Championships, which concluded Saturday.
1. It is possible to just about fall out of contention after the first round.
2. Marina Erice can't be counted out, no matter what round.

The Lady Lions couldn't overcome a sizeable first-round deficit and finished 4th in the nine-team tournament at the Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, WV.  CU's 357 in Friday's first round left them in 5th place, 26 shots back.  Concord recovered with a 330 on Saturday – the second-best round of the day – to move up one spot in the standings.

Meanwhile, Erice (left) was steady in both rounds to win Medalist honors, extending to three her winning streak in WVIAC tournaments.  The sophomore from Pamplona, Spain won the Southern Regional in Tornado last April 18 and won the Northern Regional in Moundsville October 3.

Erice took the first-round lead with 76 on Friday, following with a 75 on Saturday to finish at +7 151 on the on the par-72, 5837-yard course.  She was just one ahead of the runner-up, Julie Hirauk of Wheeling Jesuit.

Justine Knox moved into 10th place with an 81 on Saturday, ending up at 166.

Shelby Myers tied for 15th with consecutive 85's, and Heather McMillen tied for 33rd at 200.

Wheeling Jesuit won the team title, going 331-328 to finish at 659, 22 shots better than runner-up Seton Hill.  West Virginia Wesleyan was 3rd at 683, four shots clear of Concord.

The WVIAC Championships is the Lady Lions' final event on the Fall calendar.  The spring season will begin next year.
