SOFTBALL ADDS ASSISTANT COACH

PERKINS BRINGS IMPRESSIVE ATHLETIC & ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS TO CONCORD

Concord Softball head coach Sabrina McCullough began the Lady Lions' turnaround without an assistant.

Now, with the program poised to take another step up, McCullough will have some help.

McCullough has announced that Tamara Perkins has joined the CU staff as a Graduate Assistant for 2010-2011.

A native of Lawrenceville, GA, Perkins comes to Concord following a playing career in which she was a four-year starter at Tennessee State University.

By the end of her playing days, Perkins was the Tigers' all-time career leader in runs batted in, and second all-time in home runs, doubles and hits.

She was TSU's Offensive Player of the Year twice, and earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference's All-Newcomer team her freshman year.

Perkins also excelled in the classroom. She was named to TSU's Dean's List seven times, the AD's List six times and the President's List once. She was also a three-time member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Academic All-American team.

She served as Secretary of TSU's Student Athletic Advisory Committee twice – once in 2006-2007 and again in 2009-2010.

Perkins earned a BS in Psychology from Tennessee State in August 2010.

Perkins joins a Concord team that improved from a 1-32 record in 2009 to 21-26 in 2010, including a return to the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament after a two-year absence.

The Lady Lions open their 2011 season on February 16, with a doubleheader at Lincoln Memorial University (TN). CU opens its home schedule with a WVIAC doubleheader against Seton Hill on March 21.
