There's no place like home.
Which is rough if you're on the road.
Indiana University (PA), playing on its home course, staged a furious second-round rally to overhaul the Concord's Men's Golf team and win the IUP-Cecil Spadafora Invitational on Tuesday, April 13th.
The host Crimson Hawks, ranked #1 in the NCAA Atlantic Region, saw all five of their players shoot 74 or better to overcome Concord's three-shot first-round advantage.
The Mountain Lions, ranked #3 in the region, carded a 296 on Tuesday to end the tournament with a solid 580.
But it was no match for IUP's sparkling 279 on Tuesday, which propelled them to a 566 and a 14-stroke victory on the par-71, 6542-yard Indiana Country Club course.
CU's Ryan Terdik (left) carded a two-under 69 Tuesday to finish at 139, one shot back of IUP's Gavin Smith for Medalist honors. But Terdik was the only Mountain Lion to finish under par.
Jimmy Ettore and Emmanuel Charmat each shot 71 Monday, but each posted a 76 on Tuesday. Johan Isberg followed a 72 with a 75, and Kyle Long went from 73 in round one to a 78.
Concord, ranked #3 in the region, finished 16 shots ahead of third-place Millersville (PA), which is #8 in the regional rankings.
The tournament featured seven of the top ten teams in the NCAA Atlantic Region. Aside from CU, IUP and Millersville, the field included #4 California (PA), #5 Clarion (PA), #6 Charleston and #7 Fairmont State.
The Mountain Lions now await the NCAA Atlantic/East Region Championship, May 3rd-5th, at the Glade Spring Resort course in nearby Daniel, WV, a course at which Concord has experienced success this season.
