With three players shooting par or better, and all five players within strokes of the individual lead, Concord's Men's Golf team grabbed the lead after Monday's first round of the IUP-Cecil Spadafora Invitational in Indiana, PA.
Ryan Terdik carded a one under par 70 to lead the Mountain Lions, putting him 4th in the overall standings.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Ettore closed out his round with three consecutive birdies while shooting an electrifying 31 on the back nine. He finished at even par 71, along with teammate Emmanuel Charmat, to tie for 7th.
Before birdying 16-17-18, Etttore birdied 11, and just missed birdie putts at 12 and 13 on the par-71, 6542-yard layout.
“Jimmy is a very solid ball striker, and this round doesn't surprise me,” said CU assistant coach Darcy Donaldson. “He didn't' miss a green in regulation on the back nine. Once he gets his putter going he's capable of posting a very low number.”
Johan Isberg shot a 72 and Kyle Long closed well to end up at 73.
Concord's 284 team total is three shots better than the host school, Indiana University (PA). Charleston is in third, 12 shots behind the Mountain Lions.
Matt Demeo of Adelphi (PA), Ross Pringle of Clarion (PA) and Sean Sweithelm of host IUP share the individual lead at 69.
Terdik is in a three-way tie for 4th with Rob Erwin of West Virginia State and Shane Henry of Millersville (PA).
Terdik was a combined three under par on par 4's and par 5's.
Concord topped the field in scoring on par 3's (3.16, +4) and par 4's (4.04, +2), and was second to Charleston on par 5's (4.80, -4).
The Mountain Lions' 60 pars were seven better than the next-best team, California (PA). CU's 14 team birdies were second only to the host Crimson Hawks.
The second and final round of the IUP-Spadafora Invitational will be Tuesday, April 13th.
