OUT OF THE GYM, ON TO THE COURSE

Men's Golf Finally Plays Outdoors

Outdoor spring sports athletes can try to simulate competitive conditions indoors, but there's nothing like the real thing.

Concord's Men's Golf team put in a lot of gym work and cage time to prepare for its 2010 campaign. But all those climate-controlled preparations could never exactly replicate what they'd find once they got a chance to play on a real course.
“Keep in mind,” CU assistant coach Darcy Donaldson noted, “that we haven't played outside but two days before playing today,” as the Mountain Lions teed up for the Barton College Invitational, their first event of the season, March 8th and 9th in Wilson, NC.

Ryan Terdik was CU's top player in the two-day event, with a 77-75-152. Emmanuel Charmat rebounded from an 80 on day one with a 76 on the second day, finishing at 156.
Jimmy Ettore cut eight strokes between the first and second rounds, carding an 82-74-156.
Kyle Long, Concord's top performer on the first day, struggled on day two and ended 75-87-162.
Fernando Voss finished 81-85-166 on the par-72, 6851-yard Wilson Country Club course.

Flagler College (FL) won the team title with a 580, three strokes better than the host school. Flagler's Patrick Lamb won medalist honors with a four-under 140, besting Barton's Darren Smith in a two-hole playoff.
