WBB: PUTTING THE "D" IN CONCORD

STRONG DEFENSE LIFTS LADY LIONS PAST WJU

In basketball it is said that shooting comes and goes, but defense shows up every day.

The Concord's women's basketball team's consistent defense kept them in the game until the offense arrived in a 75-60 win over Wheeling Jesuit in a WVIAC contest Wednesday night at the Carter Center.

The Lady Lions shot only .222 (8-36) from the field in the 1st half, but limited the visiting Lady Cardinals to .278 (10-36) and trailed only 27-24 at halftime.  CU went on an 11-0 run early in the 2nd half to take the lead, then fell behind 37-35, only to embark on a 19-6 run to claim a 54-43 advantage with 9:55 to go.  Concord would lead by double figures for the final seven minutes of the game.
