WOMEN'S SOCCER: FIVE OUT OF TEN

CU IN MIDDLE OF WVIAC PRE-SEASON POLL

It's a sign of the times.

Concord's Women Soccer team returns eight starters from last year's squad that went 12-7 and reached the finals of the WVIAC Tournament for the second straight year, yet is tabbed to finish in the middle of the conference table in 2010.

The annual poll of West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference head coaches predicted CU will end up in 5th-place in what shapes up to be another rugged campaign.

2010 will be the first season for Stefani Workman as the Lady Lions' head coach. CU officials announced her hiring last month (www.cumountainlions.com/news/2010/7/9/WSOC_0709102813.aspx).

Defending regular-season champion Davis & Elkins -- whom Concord defeated in last year's conference semi-final -- is slated to repeat as titlist in 2010.  West Virginia Wesleyan, which downed CU in the last two WVIAC finals, is the expected runner-up.  Wheeling Jesuit and Alderson-Broaddus also received first-place votes.

Concord opens its season with a neutral-site match against Kutztown University (PA) September 3rd.  The Lady Lions begin WVIAC play by hosting D&E on September 8th.
