WOMEN'S SOCCER: NO EASING INTO IT

2010 SCHEDULE FEATURES RUGGED START

Concord's new Women's Soccer head coach, Stefani Workman, will find out quickly what type of team she has in 2010.

The Lady Lions will open their season with three matches in five days against strong opponents, then plunge into the bulk of an always-demanding West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule.

Concord begins its fall campaign with pair of matches against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams in East Stroudsburg, PA. The Lady Lions meet Kutztown University – which finished 15-6-2 in 2009 – on September 3rd. CU goes against host East Stroudsburg University (11-7-2 in '09) on September 5th.

The Lady Lions begin their home schedule against defending WVIAC regular season champion Davis & Elkins on Wednesday, September 8th. Kickoff is at 2:00 pm.
CU and D&E split two matches in 2009. The Senators grabbed a 2-1 overtime victory in a regular season match on September 23rd on their way to a 10-0 conference record. Concord exacted revenge with a thrilling 3-2 victory in Elkins in the WVIAC Tournament Semi-Finals on November 6th.

Concord and West Virginia Wesleyan renew their spirited rivalry on September 14th at Buckhannon, WV. The Bobcats swept both matches last season, claiming a 2-1 double overtime win in Athens on October 12th, then ending CU's season with a 4-0 victory in the WVIAC Tournament Final on November 8th. It was the second straight season in which WVWC topped Concord to win the tournament championship.

CU visits Alderson-Broaddus on September 29th. The Lady Lions held off the Battlers for a hard-earned 2-0 victory in the WVIAC Tournament Quarterfinals last season.

Other Concord home matches are:
  • Saturday, September 11, vs. Seton Hill, 12:00 pm
  • Saturday, September 25th, vs. Shepherd, 12:00 pm
  • Tuesday, October 5th, vs. University of Charleston, 2:00 pm
  • Tuesday, October 12th, vs. WVU Tech, 3:00 pm
  • Saturday, October 23rd, vs. Salem International, 1:00 pm

Workman took over the Concord program last spring, after Carol Bonnes left to become the coach at Carson Newman. The Lady Lions finished 12-7, 7-3 WVIAC in 2009.
