Mountain Lions #8 In NCBWA Poll

You wouldn’t know it by looking outside, but the start of the 2010 Concord Baseball Season is less than three weeks away.
The Mountain Lions will go into the new campaign with some pre-season distinction. Concord is ranked #8 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll.
Concord went 27-15 last season, finishing 9-5 and in 2nd place in the WVIAC South, and reached the NCAA Atlantic Region tournament.
Concord is one of four WVIAC teams in the pre-season Atlantic Region rankings (see complete poll below). West Virginia State is 4th, defending league champion Shepherd is 7th, Pitt-Johnstown is 9th and Seton Hill also received votes.

The Mountain Lions return a solid group of returning players from the ’09 team, featuring UT Donovan Huffer.
The senior from Churchville, VA was a 1st Team NCBWA All-American and was named to the All-Atlantic Region teams designated by Daktronics and the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was also a 1st Team All-WVIAC selection.
OF Brooks Cullen returns for his senior season after earning 1st Team All-WVIAC honors in 2009. He was also named to the All-Atlantic Regional Tournament team and was a 2nd team All-Region pick by Daktronics and the ABCA. Cullen also garnered an ABCA 2nd Team Atlantic Region Gold Glove award.
Other All-WVIAC players returning to the Mountain Lions in 2010 are OF Keith Morrisroe and P Trey Smith (2nd Team), and 3B Greyson Schramm and DH Josh Wenger (Honorable Mention).
Concord opens its 2010 season on Saturday, February 20, with a non-conference doubleheader against Ashland University (OH), starting at noon. The teams will wrap up their three-game series with a noon contest on Sunday, February 21.
